Development of the ecolabel Blue Angel for wood stoves (FKZ: 3717 37 314 0)
As part of the project, criteria were developed in dialogue with stakeholders (environmental associations, industry associations, manufacturers, testing institutes, measuring device manufacturers, research institutes) for wood-burning stoves that have lower emissions compared to conventional stoves, particularly in terms of particulate matter, and are user-friendly. In contrast to the conventional type test, Blauer Engel-labelled stoves must prove in a realistic measurement cycle that they also have low emissions during the ignition phase and under the natural draught conditions that are common in households. While conventional wood-burning stoves may emit a maximum of 40 milligrams of dust per cubic metre during the type test, Blauer Engel-labelled wood-burning stoves must emit less than 15 milligrams of dust per cubic metre under difficult test conditions. This is usually achieved by the stoves through automatic air regulation and the installation of filter technology. The criteria for applying for the Blauer Engel are published as RAL eco-label no. 212.
