Technical Support of the Environmental NGOs for their Stakeholder Representation within the Implementation of the Ecodesign Directive (EuP)

Background and tasks

Stakeholder dialogues play a crucial role in the implementation of the Ecodesign Directive 2005/32/EC (EuP-Directive). Balanced participation of all relevant stakeholder groups should produce results with maximal acceptance.

The European Commission supports ECOS as representation of the environmental NGOs in their representation within the stakeholder dialogues. ECOS initiated an EU-wide network of NGOs and commissioned Ökopol to technically support and scientifically advice the NGOs.

The Ecodesign Directive sets a framework for the regulation of binding requirements to satisfy environmental demands in the design of products run by energy. A good portion of the environmental impact of a product is predetermined by its design and construction. Therefore the EuP-Directive aims at the improvement of the environmental sustainability of energy using products in the stage of their design.

Objectives and expected results

The environmental NGOs are supported to establish adequate instruments for their internal and external communication of their network.

The extensive documents and processes within the implementation of the EuP Directive are processed and technical advice is given. This facilitates the environmental NGOs to find their position within the EuP stakeholder dialogue.
