Presentation “Environmental Protection Services in Communities – Examples of the City of Freiburg” for a Delegation of Government Representatives and Mayors of Guandong/China On Sustainable Urban Development

The project is part of the Sino-German strategic environmental dialogue on policy development and enforcement in the areas of environmental protection, climate as well as resource efficient consumption and production patterns. It is part of the component "Environmental Legislation and Enforcement in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP)"

Environmental protection, resource efficiency and climate change have become crucial global challenges. This is especially relevant to the Peoples R of China experiencing a strong economic growth during previous decades, which simultaneously puts stress on environment and natural resources. The resulting main challenges for the Chinese government include, but are not limited to, water pollution, and the lack of sustainable waste policies and heavy metal pollution.

GIZ supports the EU-China Environmental Sustainability Project (ESP) (2013-2016). The objective of the EU-China Environmental Sustainability Programme (ESP) is to support the Chinese authorities in their efforts to achieve environmental sustainability and meet the environmental targets of the 12th Five Year Development Plan, by reducing water and heavy metal pollution and implementing sustainable waste policies.
