Evaluation of the implementation of best available techniques (BAT) in industrial activities: measurement and evaluation of reduction options for greenhouse gases (CO2, N2O) from waste incineration (FKZ 3714 42 313/3)

Besides conventional air pollutants, waste incineration plants produce emissions of climate relevant gases like nitrous oxide (N2O), methane (CH4) and fossil carbon dioxide. To obtain more knowledge on the formation and emission of these climate relevant gases, literature research and measurements of nitrous oxide and methane were conducted in this project. Measurements were realized on incineration plants with different combustion techniques: on two sewage sludge incinerators with fluidized bed combustion, on a sewage sludge incinerator with grate combustion as well as on a municipal waste incinerator with grate combustion and on a waste wood incinerator with fluidized bed combustion.
