Update of the German inventory for NMVOC emissions resulting from the use of solvents and solvent-containing products for the reporting years 2020, 2021, 2022 (project no.: 157924)

Reducing emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is a nationally and internationally recognized environmental goal. In Germany, the reporting of non-methane VOC (NMVOC) emissions is done by the Federal Environment Agency. The central reporting tool is the German solvent inventory, which uses the so-called "product-based approach" to calculate NMVOC emissions. In the project, the inventory for NMVOC emissions is updated (reporting years 2019 and 2020) and the survey and calculation methodology adapted (e.g., with regard to reporting and commodity numbers of the statistical input data and factors in the emission calculation). In addition, the extent to which a solvent-based approach could be implemented for Germany as an alternative to the product-based approach will be reviewed and a general guideline on how to use the inventory developed.
