The implementation of the EU Textile Strategy – Definitions as a basis for the derivation of possible ecodesign requirements (project number:173705)

The EU strategy for sustainable and circular textiles comprehensively references the challenges associated with the planned shift towards a sustainable and circular textile economy. These challenges are to be met, among other measures, with the introduction of binding ecodesign requirements. Specifically, the EU Commission plans to set binding product-specific ecodesign requirements to achieve better durability, reusability, repairability, fiber-to-fiber recyclability and a higher mandatory recycled fiber content, as well as to limit and track the presence of substances of concern. Against this background, the aim of the project is to substantiate and define relevant terms relating to aspects of material efficiency. These terms will serve as a basis for the derivation of possible ecodesign requirements.
