Expert opinion on two selected topics of the EU Plastics Strategy within the framework of the 8th Government Commission of Lower Saxony
At its constituent meeting, the 8th Government Commission decided to examine how the aspects of the EU Plastics Strategy could be taken into account in the current appointment period. This examination, which was carried out in line with the specific individual measures in Annex I of the EU Commission’s communication on the plastics strategy, showed that the packages of measures "Strengthening plastics recycling" and "Curbing plastic waste and littering" in particular contain measures that should be dealt with within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission. This work will be carried out within the framework of two special working groups, in which Ökopol will provide technical support for the topics.
The working groups on the topics "Lower Saxony’s interests in the implementation of the EU Directive on the reduction of the impact of certain plastic products on the environment (topic area 1.1)" and "Plastics recycling and the interfaces between chemicals, product, waste and immission control legislation (topic area 1.2)" will be supported by Ökopol in terms of content and organisation as part of the commission. In addition, the findings and recommendations obtained will be documented and processed in such a way that they can be used by the members of the 8th Government Commission as a basis for corresponding decisions.
