Support of the Round Table on Marine Litter to operationalize the measures proposed under Environmental Objective 5 of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), “Reduction of Marine Litter” (FKZ: 3719 25 204 0)

The Round Table on Marine Litter was established in 2016 by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Ministry of the Environment of Lower Saxony and the Federal Environment Agency to support the implementation of the national measures of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). Around 150 experts from a wide range of sectors, environmental organizations, associations, federal, state and local authorities, as well as regional and local politicians are represented in the Round Table. Its purpose is to discuss and operationalize the measures defined in the action program of the MSFD. To this end, the Round Table on Marine Litter aims to compile relevant and differentiated information on the relevant sources, input pathways and impacts of marine litter and to develop concrete mitigation strategies to reduce the input of plastics into the aquatic environment. Within the framework of the project, Ökopol supports the activities of the Round Table on Marine Litter and its working groups with regard to both content and organizational matters.
